Volunteer Driver Service Meet Up

Volunteer Driver Service Is Moving Up A Gear

Working full-time and caring for her mum, meant Fiona Flear needed help with hospital appointments for her mum and was introduced to VASA’s volunteer community transport service. Eventually she took early retirement and started volunteer driving while continuing to be a carer. “I find it very enjoyable because you get to meet so many different people and they’ve done so many different things in their lives, it’s really interesting.” Fiona points out, “having come from a job where I was used to meeting lots of people, it’s made retirement a lot easier.”

You use your own car and mileage costs of 45p per mile are paid. As a volunteer driver you take people to medical appointments (including vaccination appointments) and to visit family and friends in hospitals or care homes, as well as some social inclusion activities.

Come and find out about the volunteering opportunities available for you. Small amounts of time can make a big difference when it comes to volunteer driving with VASA. Our drivers come from all sorts of careers but there are a few things that unify them – patience, a sense of humour and understanding.

Ali Gravestock, VASA’s Community Transport Service Manager will be at Quinton & Admington Village Hall on 4 October between 11am – 1pm to answer any questions you have about volunteer driving and chat through how to join our fun group of volunteers. We look forward to seeing you!
